🐕 What This Workshop Is

A full‑day, in‑person workshop run by AbbieTails Canine College, focused entirely on rehabilitating reactive behaviour using balanced, practical training methods. This isn't a classroom lecture—it's live, real‑world training with dogs who genuinely struggle.

You will watch and participate in live behaviour modification sessions with reactive dogs, guided step‑by‑step so you can understand why reactivity happens, how handler behaviour affects escalation, what actually changes behaviour long‑term, and when to apply pressure, release, guidance, or space.

Live Demonstrations

Hands‑On Practice

Immediate Application

Watch real reactive dogs work through triggers with expert coaching and clear explanations at every step.

Working participants receive direct feedback and coaching while handling their own dogs through challenging scenarios.

Every exercise is explained clearly, demonstrated live, and broken down so you can apply it immediately after the workshop.

🎯 Who This Is For

Perfect For:

  • Owners of reactive dogs—dogs that bark, lunge, freeze, growl, or over‑arouse when faced with triggers
  • Dogs reactive to other dogs, people, environments, or handling situations
  • Owners who feel stuck, embarrassed, or overwhelmed on walks and want genuine progress
  • Trainers wanting more confidence working real reactivity cases with paying clients

⚠️ Important: This workshop is not suitable for dogs with severe human‑directed aggression or recent bite history without prior approval. If unsure, contact us before booking.

Whether you're a frustrated owner at breaking point or a professional looking to deepen your skills, this workshop meets you where you are and moves you forward.

🧠 What You Will Learn

Throughout the day, you will develop a deeper, more practical understanding of canine reactivity and how to address it effectively. This isn't about quick fixes or management tricks—it's about genuine behaviour change.

The focus throughout is on clarity, timing, consistency, and accountability—for both dog and handler. You'll leave with actionable strategies, not vague advice.

Read Early Signals

Recognise stress and escalation cues before your dog explodes, so you can intervene early and prevent full‑blown reactions.

Understand Root Causes

Learn the difference between fear, frustration, and conflict—and why each requires a different approach.

Build Neutrality

Create calm, confident responses instead of excitement, avoidance, or panic around triggers.

Master Mechanics

Improve leash handling, spatial pressure, timing, and body language to communicate clearly with your dog.

Interrupt Safely

Learn how to interrupt reactive cycles fairly and effectively without causing more stress or confusion.

Increase Engagement

Build connection and focus without relying solely on food bribes or constant distraction.

🐾 Working Spots (Limited to 8)

Active Participation

There are only 8 working spots available, ensuring every participant receives quality coaching and adequate training time. This limited capacity maintains safety standards and maximises learning outcomes for everyone involved.

Working teams will actively train their dog during the workshop, receive direct coaching and feedback from Abbie, work through real‑world reactive scenarios tailored to their dog's specific triggers, and learn how to handle setbacks and stress in the moment with expert guidance.

Dogs will be worked one at a time to maintain safety and learning quality. While one team works, others observe and learn from the coaching process—often the most valuable part of the day.

👉 Application Required: Working spots are limited and application‑based to ensure suitability for both dog and handler. This protects the safety and learning experience of all participants. Apply early to avoid disappointment.

Alternative Option

👀 Spectator Spots

Spectator places are available for those who want to learn without bringing a dog. This option is ideal for trainers building confidence before taking on reactivity cases, owners not yet ready to work their dog publicly, or anyone who learns best by observation first.

Watch All Sessions

Observe every live working session and see multiple reactive cases addressed in one intensive day.

Learn Without Pressure

Gain clarity and understanding without the stress of handling a reactive dog in a new environment.

Ask Questions

Participate in discussions, ask questions throughout the day, and benefit from group problem‑solving.

Many spectators find this option just as valuable, if not more so. You'll absorb techniques, see what works and what doesn't, and learn from other handlers' mistakes without the emotional intensity of working your own dog.

🕘 Workshop Structure

The day is carefully structured to build knowledge progressively, ensuring foundational understanding before moving into more complex scenarios and problem‑solving.

Morning Session

9:30am – 1:00pm

  • Introduction & Expectations: Setting the tone, safety protocols, and what success looks like
  • Reactivity Foundations: Understanding the science and psychology behind reactive behaviour
  • Live Working Dog Sessions: First round of hands‑on training with participant dogs, with detailed breakdowns of each decision

Morning sessions focus on establishing core principles and beginning to apply them with real dogs. Expect plenty of discussion, questions, and detailed explanations.

2:00pm – 5:00pm

  • Owner Mindset and Mistakes: The psychological blocks that sabotage progress and how to overcome them
  • Further Working Dog Sessions: Second round with increased difficulty and real‑world complexity

Afternoon sessions build intensity and challenge. You'll see transformations happen and understand exactly how they were achieved.

📝 Important Information

To ensure everyone's safety and maximise learning, please read and understand these essential requirements before booking:

Safety, structure, and fairness come first. These protocols protect every participant—human and canine—and create the calm, controlled environment necessary for genuine learning and behaviour change.

Crating & Containment

Dogs must be comfortable being crated or staying in vehicles between sessions. This prevents over‑stimulation and maintains safety during other dogs' working time.

Equipment Requirements

All dogs must arrive on a secure collar or harness and lead. Muzzles may be required for certain dogs—this will be discussed during the application process.

No Free Interaction

There is no on‑site dog‑dog interaction unless directed by Abbie. This is not a socialisation event—it's focused behaviour modification work.

Handler Capability

Owners must be physically capable of handling their dog safely throughout the day, including managing pulling, lunging, and sudden reactions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can reactive dogs attend this workshop?

Yes. This workshop is specifically designed for reactive dogs. Barking, lunging, over-arousal, freezing, or avoidance behaviours are expected and managed safely.

Is this suitable for aggressive dogs?

Dogs with a known bite history or severe human-directed aggression must be discussed and approved prior to booking. Safety always comes first.

Will my dog be around other dogs?

Dogs are worked one at a time. There is no free interaction. Distance, structure, and controlled exposure are used intentionally throughout the day.

Do dogs need to be muzzled?

Some dogs may be required to wear a muzzle for safety. If this applies to your dog, you will be informed in advance.

A secure collar or harness, a standard lead (no flexis), a crate if possible, water for your dog, and any muzzle your dog is accustomed to wearing.

What if my dog struggles or shuts down?

That is part of the learning process. Dogs are supported, not pushed. Every session is adapted to the dog in front of us.

Can I attend without bringing a dog?

Yes. Spectator spots are available and are extremely valuable for learning without handling pressure.

Is food used in this workshop?

Food may be used strategically but this is not a food-only workshop. Engagement, clarity, and structure are prioritised.

What if my dog is too much on the day?

Handling decisions are made in real time. If a dog needs a break or a change in approach, that is part of responsible training.

Are refunds available?

Payments are non-refundable. Please contact us if you have concerns about suitability before booking.
